Discuss how important cinematography is, in establishing strong responses from spectators to a key character in 'La La Land' . Your answer must refer to 1 scene.

In La La Land, cinematograpgy is key in establishing relationships between characters and getting the response from spectators the director specifically wants. In many of the upbeat scenes and numbers, the camera will quickly pan between characters to keep the pace of the scene very quick to represent its light heartedness. This why this film suits a passive audience because they can pick up on the tone very easily, through fast camera movements and the colourful Mis-en-scene. In the scene\song "Someone in the crowd" there are very few cuts, which is noticable through the whole film. The use of so many long shots could be the director trying to maintain as much verisimilitude throughout the film as possible. With these long shots the camera pans between characters at various different points and the speed at which it happens says a lot about the relationship between the characters and the tne of the scene. Throughout this scene, there are several moments where we see Mia

The moment of fantasy love

-dark when at the resturant -colourful and saturated at the cinema and when she runs to seb -wearing green and its in spring, new life and new love -quite dark at the cinema but with some lights, still in the dark about each other as they're just starting out -empty theatre, more intimate -Footage from an old movie, nod to old cinema and old musicals - classic 'old school' date with the hand holding -constantly inturrupted, foreshadow that they can never live together forever

How far does winters bone rely upon an understanding of social context? refer in detail to at least 1 sequence of the film?

How far does winters bone rely upon an understanding of social context? refer in detail to at least 1 sequence of the film? The sequence opens with the character Ree walking through a yard with a mountain bike and dressed in 'manly' clothes with her hair hidden by a beanie. This is to be representative of the patriarchal society and idea that men in the society we're being presented are superior. She is met by a woman and this showcases how women are made to do all the work instead of the men, which is shown many times throughout the entirety of the film. All of the shots on the women throughout the sequence are either taken from above, and this is done to show that men feel they are above women in this society. This is something that a passive viewer would ignore as it is implied and not obvious to someone watching without context. With the house being messy showcases how not all women fit into the 'wife' role who clean up after men but are forced into that role

screenplay- a new perspective

Screenplay Fade in POV person 1 walking down a pavement everything from their perspective is warmer and this is to show how they are in a good mental state, person 2 in background but natural amount. Person 1 walks into college and meets a friend before walking to class, having a general chat friend1: you alright mate person 1: yeah mate you alright friend 1: i actually can't be arsed for film person 1: i know mate same In class person 1 is talking to a friend about a party they attended and it is inferred that person 2 'ruined' the party. Person 2 storms out of the room and breaks a pencil in half Friend 2: Anger issues On their way home person 1 sees person 2 about to jump in front of a train, they run to them and stop them. We revert to the start of the film but it is a lot colder to show their mental state, where person 2 is walking to college with person1 in the background. They follow person 1 into college, and meeting their friend friend1: you

Cinematic and Narrative ideas

Cinematic ideas  We have decided to do a social realism film, about suicide prevention and the issues like bullying within schools. To portray the aspect of suicide prevention we originally were going to use a split screen to two peoples day side by side whiter very similar (going to the same place, in the same place. In the backgrounds of each others POV) and one tried to commit suicide at the end, but the second pop stops them and the shots match up perfectly for the only part in the film. By using POV shots it can demonstrate how the issues referenced to in the film happen to thousands across the country and world and can really happen to anyone. It also allows us to have the other actor in the background so the two sides of the screen kind of match up but not perfectly. This is to showcase that many people deal with thoughts of suicide but we can never know who they are. Narrative ideas In our film we have a narrative with a conflict between two characters, which we can se

Ideas for short film

Originally, we were planning on a horror and thriller hybrid, and it was going to be about someone just going about their day, but it was to be revealed at the end they're a ghost with a shot of a train passing by and when it has left there being an empty space where the person previously was. It was also going to have a social realism aspect of suicide, as it was also going to be revealed that they'd committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Another possible idea would be a film that focuses on basic problem as a film centred around social realism through a metaphorical way. For example dividing everyone into two catagories and bringing in a 'Romeo and Juliet' element to show that the two groups are not as different as a metaphorical way to deal with social issues that are imbedded into our society.  However we strayed from those idea and have decided to do a film about a psycho stalker who kills the subject of their obsession, it again has an element of s

Pans lab- frog scene

The scene opens with a mid shot of Ofelia walking through a forest reading a story book, The mise-en-scene is Ofelias dressed in a clothing that looks similar to Alice In wonderland which is an intertextual reference. However instead of Blue she is wearing a green under dress, which is the colour Ofelia wears the most throughout. his could be to show she is part f the fantasy world and is close to nature. The storybook which tells her of what she must do, could be representative of how the whole story links to fairy tales and the genre of fantasy that Del Tororo makes the film in. The mise-en-scene of the forest could show that Ofelia is close with the fantasy world. While Ofelia is walking there is a jump cut to Vidal and his troops going uphill on their horses through the forest, this is to keep the continuity between the two storylines as Ofelia is also walking through the forest. There is a mid-shot of Ofelia walking through the wooded area, it is a medium long shot of Ofelia
