Short film analysis – About a girl



 This short film depicts the life of a young girl from a deprived area in the north of England, for the majority she depicts a chaotic but not uncommon life for most people of that social standing for the majority of the film however it turns very dark very quickly with the mentioning of the dog bein killed and the baby thrown into the canal. The jump cuts used continually used throughout increased the pace, the use of the handheld tracking shots which are a social realism convention made what she was talking about real. Throughout the song ‘stronger’ by Brittany Spears is used as a motif, originally I believed it was to showcase how this girl wants to escape her situation but this changed at the end of the film. The shock factor of the baby and the dog was effective as it creeps out the audience because it’s so out of place in regards to what is being said by this little girl who’s just recounting her life. The mise-en-scene of the dead trees, grey and dirty colour scheme is reflective of how hopeless people with similar lives in similar situations feel

Typewriter font- California 1995 1:00AM on a black screen. Fades out to a BLANK SCREEN ONLY SOUND IS CLOCK TICKING "MARCIA" A curly haired man with an athletic build in a scruffy suit with the top buttons undone and a faint stain on his white sirt. Is sat at his incredibly messy desk with piles of papers and empty fast food containers smoking a cigarette surrounded by papers and documents the office is dark and messy. The walls are grey and the overall feel of the room is very drab and depressing, which the fmily photos upon the desk juxtapose. Marcia has heavy bags under his eyes and messy hair sticking up everywhere. He leans back in his chair sighing, he quickly becomes frustrated with the thought of the trial and it's fustrations which we see through his body language and facial expresions being very slouched over and having little expression in his face. Screenplay- the media vs women

  Marcia has bag under his eyes and messy hair sticking up everywhere. He leans back in his chair sighing, he quickly becomes frustrated with the thought of the trial and it's fustrations. He stands and throws the desks contents to the ground. He stands breathing heavily before running a hand through his hair and falling to the ground to clear up the mess. He picks up a few documents before a magazine (!!! This magazine MUST have the picture actually leaked but with everything covered by a black bar) with leaked nude photos of them at the beach. He stands inspecting the magazine running a hand through his hair and a look of sad curiosity while inspecting the magazine cover (if possible will cut to footage of Marcia crying in court or news coverage of when it came out) His look turns to a frustrated anger and he chuck the magazine into the overflowing bin which is overflowing with cigarettes and a bottle of vodka.
