Short film analysis – About a girl



 This short film depicts the life of a young girl from a deprived area in the north of England, for the majority she depicts a chaotic but not uncommon life for most people of that social standing for the majority of the film however it turns very dark very quickly with the mentioning of the dog bein killed and the baby thrown into the canal. The jump cuts used continually used throughout increased the pace, the use of the handheld tracking shots which are a social realism convention made what she was talking about real. Throughout the song ‘stronger’ by Brittany Spears is used as a motif, originally I believed it was to showcase how this girl wants to escape her situation but this changed at the end of the film. The shock factor of the baby and the dog was effective as it creeps out the audience because it’s so out of place in regards to what is being said by this little girl who’s just recounting her life. The mise-en-scene of the dead trees, grey and dirty colour scheme is reflective of how hopeless people with similar lives in similar situations feel

Directors infulence essay

The most important influence on a film can be described as the Auter, which is usually discussed in relation to the director but could also be anyone who takes creative control of a project. For example, the film Blade runner the auter can be described as Ridley Scott The director or even some of the actors, like the actor who played Batty. He could be described as an auter because his final monologue he wrote himself, therefore making him, arguably, an auter of Blade Runner. The director is the most important part of the film in regards to how its shot and the plot, but not always the finished product. Studios tend to mess with films and the directors vision for finished product is not always brought to light and the studio can mess with films so much post and during production that its far from the directors original vision.    He Rubs his hands together and returns to the task. After sifting through some papers and files he picks up a file marked 'glove' he shakes his head and lets out an exasberated sigh before standing and opening the file which is full of reports about the finding of the glove and why it may have been viable evidence.  He flicks through various photos and When he turns to the image of the glove we are met with a montage of the glove being presented in court and OJ trying it on in court Back in his office he scoffs while closing the file and throwing the file onto the desk with litte care. He goes behind the desk and produces a half empty bottle of vodka which he's clealy been making his way through and a glass, while poring the glass he says in a passive aggressive tone with a humourless laaugh, "If the glove doesn't fit you must acquit" He fills the glass and drinks it in one go, he makes a grimace and pours another glass he takes a small swig before sitting ...
